Got the goods from the show last night. Starting with some drifting soundscapes, we take some new hip hop from Africa as a jumping off point to see the continant’s influence take form in all sorts of places. Spoek Mathambo offers a super futuristic take on classic afrofunk, and the Hackney Empire’s lond awaited full length showcases the roots of the London crew. And seen above, Ghana songsmith Tinny’s epic new “I need it.”
